Leadership Training Opportunities

Discovery Leadership Development for Women Program

Is a leadership program for women in the NT public service. This program is designed for women to develop their leadership capabilities, personal effectiveness, and management skills for working within the Northern Territory Public Sector.

Lookrukin Indigenous Women’s Leadership Program

Is designed to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) the knowledge and skills necessary to win promotions based on merit, and to increase their effectiveness in their current positions. Springboard

A development program for women in the Northern Territory Public Service up to and including AO4 level. This course covers work life balance, mentoring and problem solving skills. The Employee Assistance Service ( EASA)

Is a registered training organisation and offers training programs and workshops to all members of the public. Subjects offered include Management and Leadership, Communication Skills and Interpersonal Skills. All courses are offered in a cross-cultural context and in various areas of the NT. The Chamber of Commerce Northern Territory

Runs public leadership and management workshops around the NT. Their training calendar can be viewed on their website.

The YWCA of Darwin

Runs a young women’s leadership program designed to prepare women for board membership. You can contact the head office on (08) 8981 8323 for more information.

The Local Government Association of the NT

Provides training to elected members and staff of member organisations such as community government councils. You can phone them on (08) 8936 2888 or visit the website.

Women on Boards

The Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre

conducts courses and seminars in leadership, promotes Indigenous leadership and professional development and creates forums to share experiences and skills. For more information visit their website.

The Indigenous Women’s Development Program

Delivered through the Commonwealth Office of Indigenous Policy and Coordination offers leadership and organisational training to around 70 Indigenous women each year. For more information visit their website.

Our Strong Women – Indigenous Women, Law and Leadership

This is a national training program to promote Indigenous Women’s community leadership. Indigenous Women learn planning, media, lobbying and other advocacy skills. For more information visit their website.

The Australian Institute of Company Directors

The Australian Rural Leadership Foundation

Has an Australian Rural Leadership program that is designed to provide men and women rural and regional leaders with skills to assist them in contributing to their communities. For more information visit their website.

Facilitates mentoring for women who don’t otherwise have access to mentors, it also has a comprehensive list of resources for both women needing a mentor or women wanting to be mentors. For more information visit their website.

Volunteering Australia

Volunteering provides a unique way to get involved in the community – whether to contribute existing skills, explore new areas of work, participate alongside other community members, or to take on positions of leadership. Volunteering Australia – the national peak body for volunteering – provides information and resources for anyone interested in volunteering. Their Darwin Volunteer Resource Centre provides local support for people seeking to find a volunteer vacancy that meets their needs and interests. And many Territory positions are advertised online through their GoVolunteer website.
